I would want to know specifically why the DH does not want to go - did BIL rub him the wrong way? It isn't clear if the BIL is showing off or just excited about the trip.

If BIL told everyone that he can get a great deal on this trip, say 80% off list price, and everyone pays their way, would that change DH's mind. This would provide insight as to what the real issue is.

I have a family member who is loaded and invited everyone to an extravagant event. He is generous by nature and doesn't flaunt his wealth. I still felt strange going and I couldn't shake the feeling that I "owed" him something. This was a few years ago and nothing ever changed with our relationship. We had a great time and it was obvious that he just enjoyed sharing the wealth. It would be a whole other story if the person kept bragging about how great and generous he is.[/quote]
