Why in the hell do people that are NOT ENGAGED OR MARRIED not wear rings? In any public setting, most people look for an obvious sign before potentially hitting on someone. A ring helps in that respect. Sure, one could say, I am engaged/married and that makes the person look stupid when they shouldn't be for looking at a sign of commitment when one isn't visible.
