Pride and Prejudice. Watch it every time it's on even though I've seen it a million times
Me too. Any version. Also, Sense & Sensibility.
Me three. I even watch the Keira Knightly version, which I hate. But it's still P&P. Sense & Sensibility too, as well as the Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root.
What's the best P&P?
The BBC Mini with Colin Firth! I've got it on DVD and I DVR'd one of the many times Ovation has marathoned it. I've subjected my husband to it so much we get into arguments about which episode to watch. He says if he has to sit through it, he doesn't want to see anything before Elizabeth goes to Pemberly.
I've stared watching this several times. I can't get over that I don't find the female lead pretty enough. I'm shallow like that. And that's why I love watching the Keira Knightly one-because I think she's beautiful in the movie.
I think it was good casting though. Elizabeth is The Smart One and Jane is the Pretty One. Jennifer Ehle is pretty enough, but she's not a knock out. The thing I find unbelievable is the actress cast as Charlotte Lucas is supposed to be plain, but IMO she's just as good looking as Jane. Meanwhile, Keira Knightly is gorgeous and so is the actress playing Jane. Either of them could be the Pretty One.
That was mentioned in the reviews. Apparently the director was hesitant to even cast Kiera because she's so beautiful, but her acting won him over. But they did everything they could to make her look more "plain"- mouse brown hair with bangs, ZERO makeup. I actually think it's more realistic that way. Kiera has a beautiful face, but she was so skinny as to be considered unattractive back then. Also, she had zero makeup and did nothing to make herself look "feminine" or appealing. You could take a relatively ugly girl and plaster her with makeup and most guys would drool. At the same time, take a supermodel and strip off her makeup and dress her in shabby clothes and they won't give her a second glance. men are fairly gullible that way. To me, that's what was realistic. You could see Kiera in that movie being a girl that you knew in class and thought was pretty, but nothing special. But it's her bone structure that's striking, and if you really looked at her, eventually you would see that. But at first, you would be much more likely to be dazzled by her sister by nature of her blonde hair or Bingley's sister by nature of how she carries hereself. Gah. Can you tell I love that movie and overthink it? Lol.
