No way would I move to Tel Aviv. Move to Indiana and get a house twice or three times as big as what you'd pay here.
you are originally from flyover country aren't you? Spending money on experiences > getting a 5000 sqft house to match your 5000 sqft spouse.
NP here. I think your response to PP is pretentious and kind of obnoxious. I'm not a fan of McMansions. And I'm "cultured." But I like having my own space. I also like having a yard and dogs and cats. Living in an apartment in a city full time (as opposed to just traveling there for a temporary "experience") would not appeal to me. I think you could buy a house with a yard in Indiana and still have enough money leftover to buy "experiences" and travel. I find it obnoxious when people assume the only experiences worth having are ones that involve travel. I've traveled, and yet my best memories -- hands down -- are the ones that involve running around barefoot in my backyard as a kid chasing fireflies. I hate it when people pretend they're enlightened and open minded and then make a statement that is completely closed off to the possibility that other people might enjoy different experiences than the kind they enjoy. I don't have children, and I understand some people like raising kids in a city. But that wouldn't be my preference. One is not better than the other. They're just different.
Well said!
