You should buy a high quality diamond
Uhhh a 30k 3 ct ring is most likely high quality
No it isn't. A high quality 3 carat diamond costs a lot more than $30k.
I just did a quick search. For one with good color (F), decent clarity (VVS2) and only good for the cut, it is $68k. And that isn't even a high quality 3 carat asscher b/c of the cut. Cut and color are most important and the cut of that one is average, not ideal or very good. Diamond prices increase exponentially, not in a straight line.
Agreed, I'm looking on Blue Nile and a 2 carat Asscher cut with an ideal cut, D-F color, and VVS2 or better clarity is $31K. (That's before the ring setting itself.) If you go all the way to D in color and VVS1, for 30K you can get about 1.7-1.8 carats. If you've got the money, you should get a very good quality diamond. Large diamonds look cheap. A 1.5 carat very sparkly diamond will look much more impressive. If neither of you can tell the difference, don't bother spending 30K on a ring.
