Yep, I agree that's nasty. But black people haven't cornered the market on prejudice. It was just as 'inhospitable' when my cousin got off a bus in Anacostia to walk a block to an internship at a public school (against my advice I might add) and kept getting screamed at, i.e. "Hey, what's that white girl doing here?" "Let's get the white girl". She turned down that internship, which is a shame, because she really wanted to help those inner city elementary school children. [/quote]

I hear you PP and I get what you're trying to say but...still...
I mean yes, its disheartening when an aspiring humanitarian such as your cousin gets off a bus in a "rough neighborhood" and is immediately yelled at by what was in all likelihood some immature adolescents who probably didn't pose any real threat but they definitely were determined to make her feel unwelcome.  That sucks.  That's inhospitable.  I get you.  Still, its a little more than disheartening when a black guy is walking down the street minding his own business in what is by-and-large considered a "nice neighborhood" only to look up to see a uniformed officer screaming and pointing a gun at him.  Talk about making somebody feel unwelcome.  That's not inhospitable that's downright frightening and potentially deadly.  [/quote]
