Oh lord just had a traumatic constipation experience involving the ER and will NEVER allow myself to go through that again. The nurse told me if I could survive that trauma, childbirth would be cake  I take 100 mg of Colace daily and also a psyllium fiber supplement, which has put me back on the regular side of things. If you take iron, ask your OB about cutting that out. One fringe benefit of this is that I am really serious about eating lots of fresh fruit and veggies, which makes me eat a lot healthier than I might otherwise while preg. Also, kiwi is a godsend.
OMG you are so right about the Kiwi - I just picked some up the other week on a total lark - just sick of everything I've been eating lately. I have been battling constipationthis entire pregnancy, so seven months now, and nothing has made as much of a difference as two kiwis a day (I've done colace, daily prunes, prune juice, pears - and I eat a lot of fruits, veggies and especially leafy greens already). Nothing has brought my bowels out of their funk like the kiwi. I've actually had a real dump every day this week (and not just a couple of pebbles). It's a little weird how excited I am about this. :) Seriously if you're backed up and haven't tried it, you should!
