Refuse her discharge.[/quote] OP probably understands this, but what would happen is that if he refused discharge, he would be responsible for the hospital bill, which would be astronomical, and the only way he can sue is if he has damages, ie, if his wife is successful. Even, then, it's next to impossible to be successful because of the contributory negligence laws. Hospitals are so used to people threatening lawsuits that it isn't going to phase them.
