I've spent money on baby swim and music classes, but don't feel like they were a total waste as they got us out of the house, and I learned early on to really, really limit extra-curriculars (which has helped now that I have 2 kids who are a little older). The extended warranty on our car comes to mind, though. Also, lots and lots of clothing over the years. I really wish I had just invested in several high-quality basics and skipped a lot of impulse buys. And I'm not even someone who spends a lot on clothes anyway.
Agree about the baby swim and Gymboree. My son is 2 now and it is really tough when we don't have a planned activity for him in the mornings on the weekend. He has a lot of energy and it isn't always feasible to go to the park or other outdoor activity especially in the winter, rain or hot summer days. Also, Gymboree to me is more for socializing. We didn't have any friends with kids our son's age and we were able to meet people and see them regularly. Worth $82/month.
