DC is weird in how so many people more about where you went to HS rather than college. But most of those people are part of the Catholic mafia.
I went to Catholic Colleges and an Ivy for my last degree. People who know I went to a Catholic school often ask is I knew someone to whom they are related, did a service trip to Mexico, or volunteered somewhere a lot of people went to. (My graduating class has 80% of the graduates volunteering regularly.) People feel connected on a spiritual level to these institutions, and I'm fine with that. Re: The ivy, people will sometimes as how I got in, or if it was the best day of life getting "the letter" but nobody ever asks if I am connected to others from this time of my life. (I am, but it is different, and I have an enemy or two due to some cut throat competition-odd.) Being with people who care about you a lot and share your values is a pretty good way to start your educational journey. I wish I had gone to a Catholic HS and I plan to explore that for my kids. Kids who crash and burn in HS because there is more pressure than support and guidance often don't make it through college, ivy or not.
