Honestly, as bad as those odds are, those are still better odds than I expected, considering it's a separate lottery and everyone who wants to can apply to the common lottery and CM. That's basically 9% getting in... yes, still totally bad odds if you really really wanted CM, but I don't know why, I thought there would be even more applicants.
CM isn't as well known as many others and is relatively new. If it wasn't mentioned on DCUM, I would have never heard of CM.
But DCUM is pretty much a proxy for what is going on with middle class and upper class DC. For every parent talking about something here, there are certainly more in DC who don't even know DCUM exists. We just moved to DC in 2012 and found out about CM immediately in asking other schools questions about schools. I think it's just as well known as the other charters except maybe the national ones like Kipp, and the DC ones who've been around a bit longer, like EL Haynes and Cap City. It will be REALLY interesting to see the detailed common lottery data. So interesting (and I hope will be released) to see which schools got applied to at all in people's lists of 12, which schools were #1 the most, and which were in the top 3 the most. Also, how many unique applications for each grade were there... It's only through the common lottery that you get a sense for just how many students needing spots in grades like PS3-1st there are, and again for 5th, 6th and 9th. Hope they release all sorts of detailed data to the public from this lottery!
