wow, what's the rap against Davidson? What a strange comment.
Not PP, but I don't think so. The culture is different at Davidson (or Duke, or Wake Forest, or Vanderbilt) than at Chicago. It doesn't mean the kids at Davidson aren't smart, and that it isn't a great school. Just totally different vibe than Chicago socially.
I've known several boys who went to undergrad at Chicago. Smart but very weird, all had long hair and did lots of drugs. Definitely for kids marching to a different drummer.
This is so funny; it made me laugh. I was on the UofC campus last fall for a wedding and the kids look pretty much like kids you'd see at any other comparable campus -- e.g., they looked a lot like the students at Columbia, where my son goes to school. It's true that there are lot of kids at UofC who are quirky (I mean this in a good way -- original thinkers who pride themselves on that), and that pretty much every kid there is passionate about learning, but the school has changed a lot in the past 10 years. The switch to the Common App and a major marketing campaign has raised its profile and increased applications dramatically. As a result, some alumni actually feel that it's become too much like its competitor schools.
