Sure, we have a home in Surfside Beach, SC, and hope to retire there the moment our last graduates high school. As for the Cariibbean, we tend to keep going back to the Bahamas, St Lucia, St. Martin or Aruba. They work for us and are family friendly. We rarely travel to Europe or the UAE as I will travel to those places for work. Again, the Caribbean works for our family so we keep with what works for everyone in our family.
Thanks. We're looking around Kiawah but don't want feel like one of the poors when we get there (our financial picture is about half yours; DH could retire in 5 yrs @55 but we'd still have the 2 youngest in the house so high schools are still and issue).
Not PP but we have a home in Kiawah - and we absolutely love it. Prices there are fabulous right now. I know that we are probably one of the "poors" on Kiawah, but by the time we retire, the home will be paid off, and we can always upgrade to a nicer place if we want. I think Kiawah is a fantastic retirement option. You've got everything - great city nearby (Charleston), beach, golf, tennis, easy access to airport for travel. Re: original thread - HH income is $600k+. I don't feel rich at all in DC - just average. We own no car. DD is in daycare. We have occasional nights out with a sitter and occasional splurges with travel/luxury item. Yes, we do own a vacation home, but I consider it part of our retirement/investment portfolio. Most of our money goes to taxes - Federal, DC.
