Count me in on expecting my neighbors to follow noise ordinances. Over the summer, I had one precious day to sleep in (and by that, I mean, past 7:00 on a weekend). I probably would have made it till 8:30 had my neighbor not started his yard work. This was some sort of an electric tiller that, to me, sounded like a jack hammer. From the comfort of my bed, I looked up the noise ordinance to see what the hours were -- also remembering when I had napping babies how loud it was at all hours of the day. I can't even remember when I woke up or what the hours were, but he was 5 minutes after the start time for loud noises, so I had to suck it up and get up for coffee instead of sleeping. Yes, it would have been nice to sleep another half hour. Yes, I still curse this guy under my breath b/c he could have easily started at some normal time on a Saturday. But he was within his rights and I would never do anything anyway. I just wanted to know. If there is a noise ordinance in your county and they are violating it, who cares if they're getting exercise or your kid has ADHD? Part of living in a community is following rules and learning how you fit in. We can't be expected to keep quiet during the day just b/c someone has a baby who is sleeping. If they are our friend, however, we'd probably think twice about screaming in the back yard. But if these are teens waking up the neighborhood during quiet hours, then it's appropriate to talk to the parents. I probably wouldn't do it b/c I know how touchy neighbor situations can be...but I would understand if someone else wanted to discuss it. Your personal circumstances are no different than me wanting to sleep a bit more on a Saturday morning. It doesn't matter!
