I don't like to walk to buy cat litter or a week of groceries or Target shopping. I definitely prefer to drive all those bags home. You "walkable" left wing loons must not buy anything. How do you live? Maybe you don't cook, clean, or have a pet or baby.
So, quoting you, enjoy your "car dependent crap hole" then. Traditional neighborhoods where you don't have to drive miles for basic needs is actually quite conservative.
I am not PP but I too was a bit mystified by your comment. Residential neighborhoods around Tyson's are certainly car-dependent, but it would be wrong to say that residents there have to drive "miles" for basic needs. I live in 22043 and I'm hard-pressed to think of any basic needs more than 3 miles away. Some are in walking distance (not many but some). I think the original point was that even though stores may be in walking distance, few people would actually choose to walk back and forth with a week's worth of groceries. My nearest Safeway is a 7-minute walk away, but I wouldn't walk there unless it's just "for fun" walk. Who wants to lug groceries all the way back when driving is easier and takes 120 seconds?
