I'm sorry but all McDuffie runs on is "teen takeovers." I can't imagine him ever standing up to Trump -- especially since he is backed by the same interests as Bowser and has the same priorities as Trump crony and DC U.S. Attorney Pirro. Bowser's appeasement strategy hasn't worked. We still have the National Guard here which is a a stain on our city and a real message to anyone who wants to invest here not to -- the instability of investing in a police state run by an 80-year-old racist lunatic is too great. I don't know what McDuffie stands for except his own opportunism. When he fumbled his run for AG and had to drop out, he switched parties to run against the only reliable and kick ass council member we have (Elissa Silverman) and defeated her with Bowser's money and cheap tactics (accusing her of campaign finance violations which Silverman proved in court were false). Now we have him running again and this time exploiting the crime issue.
JLG and McDuffie have much more in common than not so they have to emphasize whatever issue they poll better than the other one on. He's running on teen takeovers because JLG has a reputation for being soft on crime and not caring about QOL issues. She's spamming me with mailers about Pepco because he has a reputation for being in the pocket of special interests and likely, somehow, on the take. Both criticisms are probably more valid than not, but different voters have different priorities. Whoever you're voting for, of course the criticism of them seems harmless compared to the other candidate. But it works both ways. FWIW I don't think there was a way for Bowser to "win" with Trump. Everyone points to Mamdani but he didn't have to contend with the reality that his City could lose its right to self-govern, that's not exactly apples to apples. Also I don't think the National Guard is a stain on the city telling people not to invest. I think it's a waste of resources and an example of boundary pushing by Trump (soon to come: NG at polling places in blue cities in November) but I work for a company HQ'ed elsewhere in the US and everyone outside of DC had already forgotten the NG was here a week after they were brought in. There have been fifty-eleven scandals since then; nobody remembers.
