College counselor here. W&L has 1800 students and UVA has 18,000. Admission rate comparison makes no sense. W&L considers interest, they do interviews - it is a different process and they look at more parts of an application. But in my experience, for students from Northern Virginia, the academic expectations are higher for students trying to get into UVA. This is partly explained by the fact that 25% of W&L students are athletes/have an athletic hook as opposed to the ~2.5% at UVA. But even for non-athletes, the academic threshold is consistently higher for UVA.[/quote]
