I feel like it's gotten darker and sadder this season. I don't think Paul's move OR Alice at Wesleyan will "stick." There will be reasons to come back to California. I found it interesting that in this week's episode, everyone is plotting an adventure. (Except Jimmy.)
They are definitely setting it up for Jimmy to feel completely abandoned in the next episode. Paul is gone, his dad left, Alice is leaving, Sean is moving out of the pool house, Brian and Charlie are going to Tennessee for the summer, Liz and Derek are going on a big European vacation, and Gabby is launching a business (and ousting Jimmy from his office I think?). So he's going to be ALONE. And he's in a bad place mentally after dealing with his dad's abuse and criticism, and then feeling like Paul doubled down on it (too bad Jimmy couldn't see Paul standing up for him to his dad). I pretty much hate watch this show at this point (I just find it ridiculous and the way therapy/therapists are portrayed is alarming) but now I'm stressed something bad is going to happen and Jimmy will wind up in the same place he was at in the very first episode of the series (on a bender, prostitutes in his pool, totally out of it).
