With the amount of work and time to compile that information, the person who runs that account does a service to players and families. He definitely promotes ECNL more, but he has also posted stuff to promote GA. Give him a medal
Reposting all the announcements is kinda creepy.
I find it conflicting that the person claims it’s just a service to players and families, but then at the same time is asking people to promote and help grow the audience. There is clearly a motive here. Maybe to reach a big enough following to start charging a subscription? Maybe to push a narrative to market a product (ECNL)? It’s not just for the public good.
It's all hard to trust when it's anonymous and the stats don't always add up/are wrong. Easier to believe it's being funded by a league trying to keep its top spot.
Easier to cook up conspiracy theories than face the truth too.
People in GA know ECNL is the stronger league and they get more coaches at their events (that's well-known). What they don't like is some social media dude sad attempt at poor/sensational journalism that lacks context and the drive to actually explain the forces of what's behind the numbers (if they are accurate).
Just for fun, what are your thoughts on forces of what's behind the numbers? If social media dude is reporting on numbers of coaches attending, what's sensational about it? From following his account, it's apparent that he's not diving deep into the reasons why things are occurring. I have a DD that has committed to play in college. She plays at a MA ECNL club. Her future college coaches also went to the last GA event in FL. Sent 3 of their staff to the event. And it's not some sort of directional university D1 program. She has players at said U in her incoming class that are from GA clubs. The whole thing of GA v. ECNL is tiresome at this point. The whole blowup of the US Soccer Development Academy was disappointing IMO because I think that there was an chance to make some real changes but the girls side only existed IIRC from 2017 to 2020. Not a whole lot of time to develop anything. And, I really don't know if the boys side is any better with both ECNL and then MLS with the whole program of Academy, Home Grown and then true Academy programs. Enough rambling! Good Luck to those that continue to navigate this mess of a system. I think ECNL on the girls side was bullheaded in some of their decisions on clubs they wanted to admit to the league, but at this point it is what it is.
I appreciate you sharing your perspective. To your question: It's sensational because he shares it during one of the GA's biggest events and it's basically a cheap shot punching down without any context. It's like he's trying to short-sell a stock where reputation is a big deal in the youth world. I can tell you a nationally-known ECNL club that has been historically successful and remains a top dog -- but still is now under pressure from newer GA and ECNL rivals after being a monopoly in our metro area for years -- quickly shared it on social media to try to create FOMO for them. Kids see this stuff, too, wondering if the p4 schools they want to go to will be at the showcases for the team they might currently be on (When they have been/likely will be). A good life lesson trying to explain this stuff, I guess. And what is that truth? I've read coaches are rolling back on national showcases for all leagues (ECNL included) as they tire being faced to pick one over another, instead now favoring more regional ones where you sometimes have both leagues. Also, I've seen that the public numbers of schools/coaches (for any of these things at any league) aren't necessarily complete, so more like minimums, because of last minute decisions to attend. And, with this source in particular, he shades data. Like depending on when you pull the numbers, ECNL could be in decline YoY as well but you could fudge it to make it not look so bad. He also is known for moving the goal posts where like at one time focused on D1, and now is all about P4 as the GA has increased its recruiting successes. But that's just all gleaned from comments, so who knows how accurate that is. So if he/she really wants to serve the youth soccer community (that's what he says as he defends himself in comments), he needs to do some real journalism and just not post data and say I wonder why this is and think the worst? I mean, that's lazy. If you want to armchair the numbers (if they're accurate) it's just one event with a big drop. The others are fairly stable. But that ruins the narrative.
