Hello, not sure if there is another recent post about this anywhere but I thought why not ask. Is it worth it to take Summer P.E? If anyone has taken the class, how was it for you, was it hard? Is there a summer P.E with the summer before 10th grade as well, so they don’t have to do gym at all in school? My kid is a rising 9th grader going to oakton. Please give me input. (What would be the cons and pros basically)
My kid took it. It was harder than you might think, including the requirement to wear a monitor and keep a diary of activity that you had to vary every week. A fair number of kids fail it.
Can someone provide more information about the activity having to vary each week? My kid is on swim team and has an hour plus practice each day. Would they have to do another hour activity for variety? How does the heart rate monitor work? Do people just use fitbits or apple watches?
Most kids I knew used a Fitbit or Apple Watch. I believe there’s also an app for those who don’t have a watch but I’m not sure how that works. My swimmer DC absolutely had to do an additional workout most days. Swim practice didn’t usually meet the heart rate requirements, which changed weekly based on what the class was studying at the time. It’s definitely more strict and time intensive than school year PE.
