The part about her dad suggesting she was going to burn down the college is the rough part. I agree with the bard spokesperson that Je took credit for everything….that is how power brokers like him operate — they have to exaggerate their own influence and power in order to have people keep coming to them for favors. He is like a money lender but instead of money it’s social capital or political connections or sex — and everybody has to pay the vig on the loan but no one knows when it will be called in. He takes credit for getting woodys kid into school so then he can get Allen to give Karl’s son an internship and then Karp can represent someone else that needs something….. and round and round and round it goes.
That was obviously humor! Did no one watch Annie Hall or Hannah and Her Sisters or Zelig or Crime and Misdemeanors? He was a stand up comedian and is a comedy writer. His humor is very dry, very sarcastic and self-deprecating and not meant to be taken literally at all. Everyone is so dramatic. Poor Bechet they're reading too much into this. Why do these emails from Soon-Yi not have her name or her daughter's name redacted but many of the Trump ones or Steve Bannon ones do?
That is my post. I saw every woody Allen movie that came out before about 1995 and also read all his plays. Yes it’s a joke but you don’t make a joke about your kid burning down a college unless the kid has some behavioral or mental health struggles (which is probably why the mom thought she needed JE’s help to get her into bard). It’s just crappy for a kid to know your dad was joking about you that way. That’s worse than the “mom thought I needed connections to get into college” (which is more just a normal famous person thing).
