One thing I don’t recall hearing during Sunday’s session or the open house previously: how many students do they aim to have in each Scholar’s class? My read was there were about 80-100 families in attendance on Sunday. I guess they expect a yield of around 50% of those kids? Is that correct?
Good question! I’ve HEARD that there are 40-50 Scholars every year in the program, but those are not official admissions stats. This year’s Scholars class seems bigger, but so does the overall freshman class, so maybe there were more acceptances than anticipated?
It’s bigger than that this year. My child is in it and says about 60 or so. I think the school had a higher yield than expected for this year. I want to say a freshmen parent night they told us they got over 1500 applicants and the class was maybe 325 kids? In my head I’d always thought the school enrolled more in the upper 200s vs well over 300.
During his remarks on Sunday, the school president shared that they had 1450 (I think?) applications total, with an expected incoming freshman class of around 325, if I recall correctly.
SJC had a historically high amount of acceptances last year. It will be interesting to see if admissions will make adjustments to get the numbers back in their target range. Sounds like they are still aiming for the same amount of Scholars that they have admitted in years past.
