This story is so old and is about football...HS football. Who cares and you all need to move on. It really didnr impact your life.
Your point about high school football is a good one, but can cut the other way. As a former NCAA D1 scholarship athlete who took academics seriously, I was always amazed at how university presidents looked the other way when it came to football. With NIL, the corrupting impact of football is even greater today than ever - so much so it is likely not sustainable. So now we see a case of serious recruiting in a local public high school with numerous violations of rules - in, as you state, just high school football. High school sports should be about participation. That is the proper perspective for a public high school. Overton likely made a wise choice. I don’t understand parents who choose the St James option but it is clearly their choice and their risk return decision. I do wish parents would understand the challenges of athletic scholarships, the goal of so many parents, largely for the ego factor. I used to get aggravated at African American athletes who were both bright and interesting yet worked to lesser expectations. I didn’t blame them, but the adults. And yes many of them were football players. A high school athletic department does have the responsibility to set the right tone, culture and perspective. If it is just high school football, perspective and culture matter.
