Their currency lost half of its already not great value just recently.  It’s impossible for the people (and merchants) to get/sell/buy basic goods including rice.  It’s been getting worse and worse.  The people have tried fairly recently to overthrow the mullahs,  but it was brutally squashed with thousands of executions and even more disappearances into their notorious prisons.  In contrast to Venezuelans who have emigrated en masse to nearby countries and to the U.S. in the millions, the Iranians cannot get out easily.  Their passport does not travel well. 
(And they need special exit permits, pay exit taxes, and women and children cannot leave at all without men and authorization from the men they are related to. Also, they could easily get arrested or disappear upon trying to board a flight or cross their border.)[/quote]
