I didn’t see the bloated layers of school board staff and their many administrative staff, assistants, and directors listed anywhere. Here was Rachna’s advertisement from spring 2025; the same spring 2025 where they were cutting Sped positions across the board due to a budget deficit. These director positions started at $121K—WTF? https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/VAEDUFCPS/bulletins/3d5459d FCPS does not have a budget shortfall; they have spending issues with poor prioritization skills.
Directors ONLY make 121k? If a director can’t afford a condo in Fairfax, we’re doing something wrong. Unless you’re saying there are directors that shouldn’t exist. I’d entertain that argument if you shared which ones.
You are aware that these "directors" are mostly political activists hired by the School Board members. This is easily checked simply by googling. A decade or so ago, the School Board members shared the assistants. I think there was one assistant for every two SB members. Then, they were able to hire an assistant for each SB member. This, to me, is reasonable. And, then, last year, they were able to hire a "director." In the past, SB members answered their own emails. Sure, it might have been a form letter, but you could tell it had been read. I doubt many do so any longer. I first noticed this with Pekarsky. They didn't even pretend that she had seen the email. And, her staffer totally missed the point of the email. The email came from her staffer.
What you are describing is just about every elected politician in our nation. And the SB surely receives far more local email than, say, a Senator. They get emailed every time someone looks the wrong way at Johnny in any FCPS school.
And, that is what they are hired to do. Advocate for the kids on behalf of their constituents. I don't see much of that at all. More of advocating for themselves until they can run for another political office and get endorsed by the Fairfax Dems.
