Miami and ND basically played the same schedule, minus Texas A&M.
And Miami won the head to head. Seems straightforward.
See, no one’s disputing that. The question is why wait until Dec 7 to offer that as an explanation? And not only that, to affirmatively DENY until Dec 7 that the head to head mattered at all. Anyone who actually knows anything about the process this year knows that ND’s beef isn’t with Miami getting in over it. It’s Alabama getting in over it.
Alabama deserves their CFP spot based on strength of schedule along with their performance this year (Alabama beat Georgia at Athens, Georgia when Georgia was ranked #1.) The gist of Notre Dame's whining, pouting, & crying tantrum is that Notre Dame football says the first half of the season shouldn't count simply because ND football played poorly during most of that time. Unfortunately, all games count, the entire season counts, when being considered for a CFP bid. ND football had substantial input in designing the current CFP system expecting to benefit each and every year from an expanded number of CFP teams, but oops, ND football forgot to win against U Miami & Texas A&M before taking their traditional vacation against weak teams.
Alabama started off the season being humiliated by a pathetic Florida State team and ended up being humiliated by Georgia. I guess the “entire season” doesn’t count for them though.
Again, you're wrong. Those games did matter. Alabama just plays a tougher & longer schedule than did Notre Dame. If it didn't matter,we would not be having this discussion. Notre Dame's best hope for continued relevance in college football is for the CFP to expand from 12 teams to 16 teams. I hope this happens as I would like to see ND football play in the post season.
The committee itself said the SEC championship game didn’t matter.
A championship game seemed to matter a lot for BYU though didn’t it? Strange that Alabama badly loses its game and doesn’t drop, BUY badly loses theirs and drops. SEC bias.
Excellent point. College football is a business. The CFP needs to serve the SEC & the Big Ten Conference so they do not leave & form their own closed college football league. Was also a reason (among other legit reasons) for placing U Miami, the only ACC team,in the CFP. Notre Dame is an independent school. ND needs the CFP, the SEC, the Big Ten Conference, the ACC, and the Big 12; none of these conferences need Notre Dame and neither does the CFP. ND's childish response to not making the 12 team CFP looks bad. Also, ND football is wise to avoid playing what may be a super charged BYU team with a pouting, disappointed ND squad.
If you really think that ND opted out of a bowl because it was scared it would lose, there's just no reasoning with you. No one, including me, is arguing that the other teams that made the CFP don't deserve to be there. The point is that the process leading to ND's elimination was highly suspect and downright cruel. Even ND haters agree with that. After weeks of ranking ND as a qualifier and with the results of every game in championship weekend going its way -- including 9-4 Boise State, which ND beat by 3 touchdowns, winning the Mountain West Championship -- the team had every reason to expect their name to be called on Sunday morning.
