It'll be really funny if all the right wing nutsos here concerned about a "DSA" candidate get trounced. You don't understand the broad appeal of someone who actually cares and isn't corrupt.
Janeese Lewis George actually gives a shit about DC residents. It's been so long since we've had a mayor who did. There is a reason why she's extremely popular in Ward 4 and it's not because she caters to conservatives and right wing freaks. The suburbanites and the cowards who are too afraid to leave their homes without Dump's secret police force and the Guard standing around at Metro stations won't know what to do with themselves except whine on DCUM and call MPD over someone parking in front of their house.
Ward 4 resident and this is news to me. Most of my neighbors can’t stand her.
Well…she won the democratic nomination and her Ward 4 election quite easily. She beat Lisa Gore by 38 points in the primary. So, it’s hard to claim she isn’t popular in Ward 4…unless you are trying to argue that her voters have soured on her in just the last year.
Barely anyone votes in primaries. She only got 10,000 votes. There's 90,000 people in Ward 4. I don't know anyone who doesn't think she's nuts.
Ok...but if you don't vote, who gives a shit if you think she is nuts. Do you think that screaming into the wind (or in this case on DCUM) will result in different candidates elected?
I think the point was that you can't claim JLG is popular in her home ward when, in fact, hardly any of her constituents have ever voted for her.
It's the same tired excuse for basically all elected politicians. I mean, it's kind of strange...but DC turnout is highest in Presidential election years, so she won in 2024 when DC turnout is the highest. Considering, the vote for President isn't remotely close, you might think the Mayor elections would have the highest turnout, but in fact it's not even close. DC had 70% of the electorate turn out in 2024 while only 41% in the 2022 Mayoral election.
I get your point, but remember it's the primary that counts in DC. Seeing as there was no Dem presidential primary last year (thanks Biden) and most DC voters are Dems, turnout for the primary (i.e. the de facto general election in DC) was rather low. Sure, we got a lot of turnout in November, but that's not a relevant election for DC office.
