There's a curious double standard on the left when it comes to traffic violations vs. violent crime. We throw the book at drivers. The city issues *millions* of tickets each year, many for minor violations. The attitude is that if you don't like it, then don't break the law. But with violent crime, people on the left are always looking for excuses not to punish the people involved. There's always some tortured reason why we can't enforce the law when it comes to violent crimes.
Not true. There’s a pretty substantial push not to enforce traffic laws of any kind for equity reasons.
DC issues 3.3 million tickets each year. That's twice as many tickets as Chicago. Chicago is four times bigger than DC, both in area and population.
I'm fine with that. And they shouldn't charge poor people less, they should charge rich people more. People drive like maniacs here. Who cares if they get tickets?
Actually, traffic deaths are *incredibly* rare in DC. You sound like Trump. Do you think DC is a "hellhole"? Do you also think everyone is getting murdered?
Where did you make that inference? I just don't care about people getting traffic tickets for moving violations. It's at the very bottom of the list of my concerns with the justice system.
People don't drive like maniacs here, at all. The streets are incredibly safe, especially for a large city. But somehow we still manage to hand out 3 million tickets to a city with only 300,000 drivers, but, at the same time, we search for reasons not to prosecute teenagers who beat random senior citizens to death. This why Trump is going after DC -- because some of the stuff we do is straight up crazy.
So why are they getting tickets? Are you saying the cameras are wrong or that the violations are so low-level that they should be taken off the books or otherwise not enforced? Are you saying this is a "large city" or a "city with only 300,000" drivers? I'm not following. I see people running red lights and cutting people off multiple times a day every single day.
