NP. I’m a Californian and I think the “blue no matter who” mantra has done enormous damage to my state. VA’s purple status is a strength, not a weakness. Don’t make our mistake. It can be extremely destructive.
Tell us what is wrong in California that having more Republican representation would help?
I’m the PP. That’s a long answer but here are a few starting points: - In California, a lot of the Republicans are typically pro-development and tend to have a lot of hands in the pot when it comes to development. The Democrats have stymied development for years with environmental reviews. The result is a catastrophic housing market. I am an environmentalist, I get the desire to preserve a place as beautiful as CA, but with no opposition the absolutely craziest and most minor environmental concern could stop even infill developments for years. I think a more robust Republican presence would have been a much better balance and would have helped prevent the housing disaster we have now. - With no opposition, California’s homelessness problem lies squarely at the feet of the Democrats. It is a problem largely of their creation, in particular their horrific harm reduction polices (which literally create addicts and kill people). I think a Republican opposition could have and would have fought against the implementation of social policies related to the homeless that have devastated California. - California’s education system under Democratic control (and particularly far left progressive control) has been a racist disaster. I believe having some Republicans in government (both local and state) could have prevented some of the worst progressive excesses. Mind you, I would even take a small minority of MAGA Republicans at this point (which is shocking to me), but that is because I feel so desperate. California desperately needs a working opposition to counterbalance the insanity of the progressive left, which is systematically destroying everything good about this state. If you are in VA, you have no idea how bad life can get under a deep blue governing structure with no opposition. I am jealous of your purple status and wish we had something close to it here.
