The proposed plan is for DCC to be dismantled and put into regions 1 and 3. When current 7th grade students, they are to go to their new designated local HS. MSMC schools, unlike DCC high schools, are whole school magnets. If MCPS takes away the MSMC system (by requiring, for example, all students who attend ES XYZ to go to their new designated MS Loiederman, ES ABC to go to Argyle, etc, this will in effect destroy these MS magnet programs because the students would no longer be choosing their MS based on interest. All students attending ES XYZ may not necessarily like the arts. This would be a terrible shame.
Should say “When current 7th grade students reach 9th grade, they are to go to their new designated local HS.” Posted too quickly.
Wonder how MSMC selection process would work for next year if it's just going to be gone the following year? What's the point in selecting based on interest if it's only for one year?
It’s not going to be gone as of now—CO did not propose anything about this yet. I just said what could happen to MSMC schools if they dismantle DCC so that the region has the ES-MS-HS home school cluster system most of the county operates by.
