Fortunately for women, the world is much more global at a younger age. US women in their 20s don't need to rely on the pool of US men if they want to date or marry also-college-educated men. My daughter has focused at college on building a strong mainly-female friend group through her room and dorm mates, and making friends through classes and activities with both boys and girls. She wouldn't want one of her female friends not to have been admitted so that another male would be available to date. First, dating isn't her priority, and second, she can also date graduate/med/law students. A broader matter, but the young women I know aren't so concerned with dating or meeting a future husband at college. They're very busy and directed toward their studies, friend groups, and activities. They are also more directed to fitness and healthy lifestyles than to romantic relationships. There 's certainly some dating, and some longer term relationships, but that doesn't seem to be the norm nor the goal. I do think it's an issue that men in the US aren't keeping up with US women or men internationally in terms of academic achievement. And I agree that it's worthwhile to identify ways to support boys (and girls) with different learning and behavioral aptitudes at different ages. But I'd strongly recommend against any notion that men should be admitted to college with lower qualifications in order to provide dates or romantic partners for women. As I write that it seems ludicrous to even suggest. Signed, mom of a daughter and son in college, both of whom are doing just fine.
