Kash Patel’s appearance in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee has erupted for a second time into a shouting match — this time as Patel, the F.B.I. director, and Senator Adam Schiff, Democrat of California, yelled at one another over questions concerning a recent Justice Department interview with Ghislaine Maxwell, a close associate of Jeffrey Epstein. Schiff expressed outrage that Patel claimed he had no knowledge of why Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sex-trafficking sentence related to the Epstein investigation, had been moved to a minimum-security facility after speaking with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who was once President Trump’s defense attorney. Schiff’s comments prompted a sustained outburst from Patel, who called the senator a “liar” and a “political buffoon.”
