Op here. I can honestly say I’ve never been offered ice cream as an adult in a home by anyone under 70. I’ve been to plenty of dinners and lunches over with friends and can’t think of one time outside of visiting elderly relatives or neighbors that I’ve been offered ice cream by anyone under 70. I’m thinking back to being a kid too, the times I’ve ever been scooped a bowl of ice cream were all with elderly neighbors or relatives. Friends would have popsicles - sometimes the ones with cream in the center but nonetheless, I skewed toward only having ice cream with the elderly.
Where do you live, OP? If you walk in downtown Bethesda almost any summer evening (or really any time of year) you will see lines of people buying ice cream at Jenni’s and some of the other spots that sell gelato and ice cream. Have you ever been on a beach vacation- everyone’s getting ice cream all the time. Stand in the frozen section at the grocery store and watch as people of all ages peruse the ice cream selections. Ice cream is popular.
