OP, apply for everything. Go to the pantries, get all the things. Good luck!
This is why I donate to charities overseas where people are actually starving.
I am proud that the USA takes care of innocent children here whose parents have become unemployed suddenly. I would happily pay more taxes to continue to support parents, dependents, and families that are struggling. May I suggest you volunteer at a food bank for a few hours and see the faces of the elderly and children you are denying?
Or a soup kitchen. Humbles you real fast.
I am from West Africa and grew up in an extremely wealthy family. I grew up in a massive mansion, flew private jets, basically the same lifestyle rich Americans have. My parents covered my undergrad including grad school at Pomona College. The key difference between me and a rich American is that I grew up with poverty around me and in my family. In Africa you are surrounded by poverty and it's in your face. You quickly from a young age recognize your privilege. This is not the case in the US. Poverty is hidden in this country. If you don't want to see it, you can spend 90 years of your life and not see it. The country is designed in a.way to shield to those of financial.means from the sights of poverty.
