California has refineries for oil and would just get it from somewhere else, but more likely would just ramp up solar, wind, hydro and where safe given earthquakes, nuclear. On its own, California would strike deals with Europe and China and continue to be the economic engine that it is. Why would you assert that other countries wouldn't do business with California if it were an independent country? They would be a more reliable trading partner than Trump's US currently is.[/quote]

Even if California wanted to pay with its own, brand new currency, how would it do it given that it would be immediately blocked from the international banking system?  And how would California even be able to import all of the materials, energy, and medicines needed to survive? The federal govt would block their airspace with the USAF, it would block trucking into the state to the east with the US Army, and it would blockade the entire western coastline with the full might of the US Navy.

The question is, how long would Trump be able to hold out without California before they dragged him from the White House?  Without the tech, without the money, without the FOOD from California. What makes you think that the international community would side with Trump? Trump hasn’t make any friends.  Maybe they will ONLY trade with the allied states.

Maybe California would patriate the 44 military bases, who knows?

You are also making a HUGE assumption about where military loyalties lie.

You don’t think that Newsom, who is objectively better and smarter in any measurable way than Trump, wouldn’t work details out first?  Or that this wouldn’t proceed on a long predictable continuum?
