1540 SAT, good GPA and a number of APs, etc. Offered pathway admission. it's basically one year anywhere, then join in the 2nd year.
Why do they do this? It's an ridiculous gimmick that's unhealthy for the student to go somewhere else and then transfer. Is the purpose of this to fill in for students who dropped out after first year? Well not admit more first years (who attend those cheap 500 student classes anyway) expecting some will drop out? Ugh.
GT first year retention is 97%, it is pretty high. So it is not for the purpose of filling the dropped out kid. The reason they do that is, GT has limited space for first year gen ed classes such as Eng1&2, lab science classes. GT wants to give qualified applicants chances to join. Pathway is for them to take all required gen ed classes somewhere else, if they meet the GPA and course requirements, they are guaranteed to be transferred in the second year.
