Are none of you people lawyers?  The confessional privilege has long been recognized as an evidentiary privilege in American law, like attorney client privilege.  Plus under the first amendment separation of church and state a court could not compel a priest to break the confessional seal.  But if a priest leans of child abusr a different way — eg he witnesses someone engaged in child abuse or a third party informs him of it or the child informs him of it—none of that is covered by the confessional seal and absolutely should be reported.  This is really not hard and not a big deal at all.  (Honestly if they aren’t teaching this stuff at Ave Maria law school…..you should’ve saved your money for Georgetown or BC!). [/quote]
