I've always liked Melinda. I think she's a very smart lady and a good mother. I give her credit for the kids. I think she had to be very patient being married to Bill. He is brilliant but seems very detached and probably was not the most involved husband or father.
+1 Me too. Her kids all seem pretty functional--the eldest is a doctor. Melinda could have been a Lauren Sanchez and just hang around celebrities on a yacht all day. But she's gone to the poorest countries in the world and tried to help bring medicine and clean water. And I think her new org is focused specifically on helping poor women.
Wow, some of the posts here are totally bonkers. Melinda has been speaking out on behalf of the most vulnerable populations in the world for decades and she has sat for many, many interviews, so before you judge her, I recommend that you go on YouTube and listen to her first. She cares about providing free birth control to women in extremely impoverished areas and actually spends the money to make it happen. She is an amazing speaker and non-profit leader. So much jealousy on dcum.
Charity begins at home and she has done nothing for American women. With her billions she could easily have a program to pay for travel to blue states for women in Red states with draconian abortion laws.
Its her choice who she gives her money to.
DP Of course it’s her choice where to donate her money, but… IMHO it speaks volumes when American billionaires focus their philanthropy in Africa. It seems like they know they will be able to assert control and expect to be lionized/worshipped. Oprah sure did.
What idiocy. A lot of diseases begin there and in poorer countries. So let that hit you in your selfish streak. It's unchristian to ignore the plight of those who have no health care and/or no food but you, it offends you. Tell us more about who you are.
There are quite a few homeless in the US, four insecurity, women without pre/post.natal,need help with safe child care. Take care at home before Africa.
We get it, you already won the WH. You don't need to control the Gates foundation too.
