Because Israel has way more Palestinians detained in jail than there are Israeli hostages. Israel thinks 1,000 Palestinians are worth 1 Israeli. They’ve done it before releasing  1,000 people for Gilad Shalit back in 2011. One of those released was Sinwar, the mastermind  of 10/7. Hamas specifically asked for Sinwar to be released in order for Shalit to be released.

Hamas controls Netanyahu because they have information on him like his financial support of Hamas terrorism in the mid 90s. It helped Bibi get elected. Bibi needs terrorism and Israeli fear to win
