Keep in mind this is a forum where people are in denial that DC has any problems, including crime, and would never vote for anyone that might actually fix those problems. They would rather get carjacked by a 12 year old than admit voting "wrong." So don't be surprised if others are equally stubborn and short sighted.
Simply not true. Every liberal DC resident I know wants MORE done to stop crime, specifically, those arrested to be prosecuted instead of no papered. The arrest vs. prosecution numbers for DC are terrible. Why? Because so many who are apprehended are no-papered by prosecutors and released. Good friends were carjacked. They provided excellent descriptions of the suspects. Their car was found hours later, and the suspects were still in it. The suspects arrested were 14, 16, 17, and either 18 or 19 and all matched the descriptions exactly. When I gave my friends a ride to pick up their recovered car, they found out that the teens had all been released no-paper because the OAG decided not to file formal charges. How the BLEEP can a competent prosecutor decide not to file charges on teens who matched the descriptions given and were arrested in the stolen car? That's a slam dunk case. Their story isn't unique, either. The DC and NOVA subreddits are full of similar stories. DC residents are beyond frustrated with crime. I now have more friends outside of DC (Arlington, Alexandria, Tyson's) than in DC. These moves were not to plant suburban roots to grow their families, but as the result of them being sick of being the victims of crime where the perpetrators were caught but never prosecuted. Just because I'm a liberal who believes in basic human rights, it doesn't mean I want no police or to have a lawless society. Oh, and, guns? Love 'em. All for the responsible gun ownership. I just don't think citizens need access to high-powered weapons like AR-15s. I've shot one of those a handful of times and they are not for hunting. Those are strictly for killing - total evisceration of the flesh. Maybe if the animal you're hunting is an elephant or rhino, but I think even an AR-15 vs black bear or grizzly would be a total meat-shredder event.
You understand it is the FEDERAL prosecutors who are not prosecuting these crimes, right?
