shoulda been a delay, it's icy out there!
It’s only icy where residents don’t clear their sidewalks properly which is so many able bodied people it’s embarrassing and it’s already been like that for a while now.
yes but that's a lot of sidewalks, including most of the way to my kid's busstop
Unfortunately, that's something the county needs to take care of. You can't keep canceling schools b/c of homeowners. The country has a report tool. Every neighborhood has NextDoor. Have your people go out and shovel as a team. If you have scouts or older teens, sign off on it as volunteer work. People don't have to throw up their hands and say there is nothing that can be done.
The county should enforce the ordinance and I am not shoveling people’s sidewalks for them. I am capable of walking around their section of the sidewalk and so are my kids. It’s slower going but it’s fine.
How nice for you that you and your kids are capable of handling ice. Not everyone is. Maybe think of someone other than yourself.
This logic is fascinating. I can't handle walking on ice and my kids can't either so therefore.... What should happen next? No one should go to school on time? Other people should go out in the community and clear all the ice for you? And you are the one lecturing others to not be self-absorbed?
Do you really think this is all about you? The school district has to make decisions based on everyone. There are kids and parents who have balance problems, mobility issues, are in wheelchairs, etc, etc, etc. Teachers and bus drivers have to get here. Most of them don't live here. They also have their own kids, and those schools may be delayed. We can't run our schools without staff or buses. They have to think of everyone when making these decisions. Your child will live with a delay and so will you. You can handle the inconvenience, I'm sure of it.
If the vast majority of students and teachers can get to school through a few icy patches, we should all stay home because a few can't? It sounds like you are the one who thinks it's all about you. Also, that's not how most people's jobs work. Ever gone to the grocery store or other service industry job on a day when schools are closed or delayed? Or a public library or community center? The pharmacy? You know how the whole world keeps operating? That is because people got to their jobs. If you work from home and have the privilege of holing up in your house until all the ice melts, you are a minority.
