I appreciate 1) early notice to plan, and 2) willingness to correct course rather than doubling-down to save face. Should they probably have said "We anticipate a delay will be needed on Thursday but will assess and confirm Wednesday afternoon"? Yes. But generally speaking I'm good with how things were handled.
No, it was absurd to delay today and even more absurd to delay tomorrow in the first place. Preventing childcare providers from opening on time was beyond the pale. I have zero sympathy. When conditions are really bad, the county government closes except for essential workers in order to keep as many cars off the road as possible. When they just need extra time they do a delay and then liberal leave in case some employees can't make it in. When conditions are not that bad but are worried some people might have trouble getting in, they just offer liberal leave. The county did NONE of that this week because the roads have been completely fine since Monday. It is appalling to look around and see NOTHING else delayed or closing and then for MCPS administrators to give themselves 2 hours off every morning for 3 days. Come on. This is disgusting. They walked it back because they realized how bad they looked. But it's too late. They inconvenienced a ton of people who they've made to run around like chickens with our heads cut off cancelling and uncancelling appointments. MCPS clearly run by people with utter disdain for the communities they serve.
Not absurd when HS kids have to walk up to two miles in the dark and its freezing and icy and not everywhere has sidewalks and that doesn't include major roads. And, many don't bring jackets as they don't get lockers and its a hassle with heavy backpacks to carry them all day. Not all parents can drive.
