Not sure why my previous thread on this topic got removed. The University of Tennessee Knoxville reports a 23% OOS acceptance rate for fall 2024. That's lower than UGA and almost as low as Michigan and UF. I know UTK still has work to do to get to the UCLA/Michigan/UVA tier of public universities, but isn't it time to acknowledge the school has become a heavy hitter and probably belongs in the Texas/UGA/UF/Wisco class?
UTK announced a year or two ago? that they were changing acceptance policy to prefer in-state students, similar to what UVA does and what the Florida schools do... Can't blame them, they are the in-state tax payers. It's a popular school, and they have a ton of OoS applications, hence the acceptance rate for OoS goes way down. It doesn't make UTK an elite public in the same breath as UCLA or UvA or Michigan. It's a great school, and looks like a lot of fun. DS wanted to go there but got deferred.
