1) I set the breakfast table the night before 2) Sometimes I cut up fruit that I'm going to serve for breakfast the night before
Little things like this make me realize that other people are leading very different lives from me...
+1000 Setting the breakfast table?! What does that even entail? We eat breakfast together every morning but people’s utensils depend on what they’re having. If I put forks out but my daughter ends up with yogurt, she needs a spoon. If I put spoons out but my husband makes scrambled eggs, he needs a fork. If I put anything out but I make a breakfast burrito then that was a waste.
The people who thrive on a strict daily routine find it easier to organize their lives. My parents set the breakfast table, because they always eat the same thing. They have hyper regulated and incredibly boring lives in which they always do the same thing every day. We don't. I won't sacrifice my breakfast whims for the ease of not having to think about breakfast, just like I won't ever wear a uniform - I'd rather spend more time picking out an outfit that makes me happy.
OK? And I grew up in a chaotic household where everyone was late, no clean laundry, no real breakfast, and it made me anxious and put pressure on me to care for my younger siblings. So I create peace and calm mornings in my household. Who said anything about a uniform? Plus even if you set the table you can always decide to change what breakfast will be. Ooooh, an extra spoon would freak you out?
