You know, it's to counteract the area's (long ago) civil war history. Lots of streets have been renamed. Heck, the school's mascot was changed. It's a correction. A blip. Not significant, in one political direction or another, to weigh when making a school decision.
WTF are you even talking about? You should use the quote button in the top right corner of the post you are responding to. I personally have no issue with renaming schools like Robert E Lee any more than I would with renaming a german school named after Rommel. But did anyone even know who mosby woods or wt woodson was named after? If you need a historian to point out that a name is racist, maybe increasing teacher pay is more important.
Absolutely I know who Mosby is. Not woodson or Lanier. But some people did know. AND the intent of these names was -explicitly- to honor the confederacy. It's entirely appropriate to rename them because of that. As for the other poster talking about Fairfax, that change went through while my kid was there. It was a non-issue. There were a few dopes who got bent out of shape but these are the same people who still use Redskins instead of Commanders. They sound silly and just get sillier with the passing years. "Grandma still says Redskins b/c she is set in her ways."
