My mom is 74. She and my dad always voted together, for the same candidates. My dad lead this charge - he felt that if they voted different from each other, their votes would "cancel each other out" and they might as well not vote at all. Both were Regan conservatives, and solidly good citizen types until Trump came into the scene. I think they couldn't deal with setting down their "Republican = good Christian values" identity and therefore ended up supporting Trump. That, and it does boil down to them voting single issue on being anti-abortion. (Which. . .as an aside. . .makes me laugh at seeing Harris supporters get labeled as single-issue pro-abortion voters. . .since being single issue on that is what lead my parents onto the Trump train. . .ironically). I couldn't recognize my parents any more - the things they started saying and supporting was unrecognizable compared to who they were when they raised me & the values they held. Fast forward to this year. . my father passed away in February, and this is literally the first ever election where my mom will decide for herself who to vote for without any influence from him. . .She was not oppressed by my dad. He just had stronger opinions and she went along with them for the sake of harmony. I'm starting to see a shift in her rhetoric too. . .and while I think she still won't vote for Harris, I think this ad speaks to and about women like her, and I think there are many out there.
