I’ve voted since 1976 and I’ve always voted Republican until 2020 and I don’t regret that vote even though I’m not a Biden fan. I just don’t understand how this can be a close race and that Trump can win. With his former cabinet members, his staff and his military leadership almost all against him how is he doing so well? If it’s not a cult I don’t know what it is. Like I said, I’m a hard core Republican and not some crazy liberal. We can survive four years of Harris but four years of an unleashed Trump scares the hell out of me.
It’s close because Trump can be divisive and the media hates him and has been trashing him for the last 8 years. He is strong on all the issues that matter to most Americans- the economy, inflation, national security, the border, crime, and energy independence/cost. Other than abortion (which admittedly gets her some votes), what is her position or policy on these issues? I’ve listened to her speak, many times, and for the life of me, I can’t figure out what she is saying, other than she is not Trump.
Polls show Harris is now more trusted on economic issues than trump. So apparently her message and policies are convincing people, even if not you. Trump gets a lot of interest because he talks about the issues people are already upset about (and he stokes their upset). But he doesn't really propose solutions. People understand his tarriff's are not a smart solution and would increase prices. His solution in immigration is "mass deportation" with no explanation of logistically how we'd accomplish that (it would be incredibly expensive) or any consideration given to what happens if you depart a bunch of low wage workers at once. So sure-- he gets points for talking about the issues people care about. But Harris has actually articulated achievable policy proposals to address those issues and it's clear her message is breaking through Trump's inflammatory rhetoric. Even when people have issues with her proposals, they are the kind of same policy proposals that you CAN take issue with and tweak and compromise to reach a solution. Trump takes these extreme, unrealistic, unnuanced positions and while that might seem appealing at first, they don't stand up to scrutiny.
