The campus is one of the most beautiful and easily walkable I've seen, and most kids just live right there off of University Blvd so they do not take in ALL of Alabama.  I found there was a pretty good balance of liberal/conservative in the staff and students but it is a HUGE student population with little guidance so you'd better be able to navigate the system independently.  Counselors can rotate easily (unless you get lucky and latch onto one) and the sheer size of the student body coupled with football and partying is exhausting.  The nursing school is top rated in the country as is the PR/Marketing curriculum and the students who went onto law school whom I knew went to some pretty prestigious schools after getting a basically full paid four year degree at Alabama.  Lots of kids from up North and the West Coast have started to drift into the population, not a huge majority but they are certainly coming there I think mostly for the merit.  [/quote]
