This is OP - and I think if this were a Dem leak, they'd have waited until tomorrow to drop it. Why risk having a better candidate come in to take his place? Today he can still drop out - tomorrow it's too late. I think this comes from nervous Rs who don't like how he's polling.[/quote]

Maybe Stein's campaign leaked it to CNN under the condition that they wait until Friday to release the story. CNN has been very friendly to GOP folks this cycle, giving them lots of airtime and cultivating better relationships with GOP in DC. CNN may have unilaterally decided to move early before the deadline. [/quote]

Robinson's replacement would get any votes for "Mark Robinson" on the ballot, plus any write-in votes, if replaced today by the NC GOP. It's easier to replace the candidate than mount a write-in campaign.[/quote]

He’s MAGA on steroids. So, good luck with that.  They don’t fall on their swords for the good of anyone else.

But hey— we get a turnout boost in states like FL and AZ because of abortion being on the ballot. Would LOVE if R  turnout was depressed and D turnout was juiced because of this guy. 1% could make the difference. And MAGA so completely deserves to lose NC, and the election because of a monster they created.  Hard to se Trump losing NC and winning the EC.

As an aside, I grew up in rural NC and moved from there to the DMV in 2006 at age 32. I have no illusions of what rural NC is. But even given my background, I’m gobsmacked that Rs nominated this guy.  Or maybe not. I’ve had to do a lot of muting and unfollowing of low information voters (people I went to HS with who never got education beyond HS or left the small town we grew up in) and my parents 70 something friends this election cycle. The rhetoric from them on FB is so bad. These people do believe the illegal aliens in Springfield are eating pets and want to do terrible thing to them and posting things of the inciting violence variety.  Etc.  It’s surprising me, because I made it through 2016 and 2020 and the insurrection with these FB friends.  I didn’t agree with my politics, but it didn’t cross into “I just can’t deal with you, good bye” territory until recently.  My tolerance for/ understand of having a different political positions is pretty high. But not calls for violence against legal immigrants (and in some cases women) high.

WTF is going on NC?  A significant % of your population is really ugly, divisive, and in some cases, IMO, evil.  DH and I are finally in a 2 teleworker setup with kids out of HS and we’re looking at selling the house in the ridiculously expensive FCPS district and moving Asheville this summer. Emphasis on were.  We are really re-thinking moving to a state that seems to be headed in the direction of FL.

Is the fact NC is the closest “abortion state” for the South driving this?  Or what? [/quote]
