Maybe you should recognize the reasons why he resonates with his supporters. If the root causes of their discontent could be addressed, maybe they wouldn’t be so persuaded by him.
Maybe they are just… bad people? Why doesn’t anyone consider this is possible? This country has always had lots of bad people. Look how much Jim Crow laws were accepted and how hard people fought against desegregation. Some percentage of the electorate is just lousy and have to be dragged into civilization by the rest of us kicking and screaming.
Or, maybe they just believe different things than you and think that things are going in the absolute wrong direction like most of the country. The left believes that a man can declare himself a woman and then compete in women's sports. I personally think that is crazy, but I don't think the left is bad because of it. Many on the left thinks that illegal immigration isn't an issue and we should allow illegal aliens to live and work in the US. I personally think that is crazy and a risk to our economic and national security, but I don't believe the left are bad people because of their beliefs. There are many beliefs the left, collectively, has which I am vehemently opposed to, but I don't think they are bad people. The problem here is that the right thinks the left are decent people with bad policies and the left thinks the right are just bad people. This thread pretty much confirms that.
None of these policy reasons justifies voting for someone who led an insurrection and tried to steal votes and did so fairly openly. You are either bad or obtuse/stupid beyond belief. To me, the distinction doesn’t matter much. Stupid, bad, you guys should all know better as adults with access to information.
I'll tell you a secret. I was a DeSantis supporter. I wish he had won. I think he is an exemplary governor. But, he didn't. So, I will be supporting Trump because there is no way in hell I could support Kamala and Walz. One reason is because of the way the whole "nomination" came to be. I don't think the Democratic Party should be rewarded for their antics. Another reason is I believe Kamala and Walz would do more damage to the country than they would benefit the country. I don't trust their willingness to enforce the southern border given Kamala's past performance and Walz's actions as governor. I don't think they will make a concerted effort to bring down prices because if Kamala truly considered this important she would have done something by now. I also believe that Kamala is a phony - a chameleon - who will say anything she needs to say to get elected. I'm not sure even she believes half of what she says. Hard to know since she has been on both sides of pretty much every issue.
